Day 3

Off to an early start today after another fantastic night with peaceful children and happy teachers:
  • Australian Institute of Sport
  • Australian War Memorial
  • Depart for the snowfields
Look out for contributions from Mrs Boevink's Group tonight:   Katy, Grace, Gemma, Ella, Jasmine F, Catherine, Sara, Spenser, Nathaniel and Michael

We understand that some of you are having difficulty viewing the comments.  They are definitely still there - it may have something to do with the digital device you are using as some staff are experiencing the same problem here in Canberra.
AWM with some soldiers we befriended
Getting physical at the AIS
We have arrived in the Snowfields.  The Alpine Gables is fantastic and the food is even better than Sizzler!  Thank you for all the entertaining messages you are all sending through.  There are lots of giggles and "awws".  Now for some words from the happy Canberra Campers...

The AIS was very interesting to see where all the athletes train and the War Memorial was very inspiring. Overall I had a very exciting day.      (Spenser)

Under Michael Klim's watch
Not everyone gets a medal :-(
I enjoyed the Australian Institute of Sport because it had interesting activities such as the rowing simulator. At the War Memorial it felt like I was actually in the war because I was surrounded by uniforms, planes and scenery.  (Katy)
I really liked the War Memorial today because I’ve always been interested in warfare. I found the visit very educational and exciting.  Can’t wait for the snow! (Michael)
Trying out skiing skills
I really liked the AIS and I didn’t realise Australia had so many athletes. I also liked the War Memorial – it was almost spooky. Hi Mum, Dad and everyone – hope you’re well.  (Sara)
The AIS was really interesting and fun. I really enjoyed the simulated sports area especially the soccer goal shooting. The War Memorial was really interesting and I found I learnt so many new things. Miss you all.  (Gemma)
We visited the AIS today and learned a lot of interesting facts about swimming like the underground observation area. We then went to the War Memorial and visited all the exhibits. My favourite was the WWI and WW2 plane exhibits. Love you all! (Nat)
Watching the soldiers rehearsing for a ceremony
My favourite place we visited today was the War Memorial. I liked the display of the WWI soldier who had been gassed. It was very moving. I also liked the sound and light show that simulated a bombing raid and the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. (Ella)
Dinner at Alpine Gables
The place I loved today was the tomb of the Unknown Soldier the War Memorial. I loved it because it was so beautiful and quiet. I learnt that the room where the tomb is situated is made up of 6 million tiles! I hope everyone is OK and well at home.  (Jasmine F.)
The place I liked the best today was the AIS because of the awesome gymnasium.  The place where we are staying for 2 nights, is absolutely awesome – I have a huge bed all to myself, and the food is magnificent. (Grace)
Staff cooking the steaks
One of the things I enjoyed today was finding someone at the Australian War Memorial was a soldier named Bob Cockerill.  The Alpine Gables is much better than the Carotel because it has comfier beds and a variety of food options.  I devoured the spaghetti bolognaise and the dessert was very rich so I couldn’t finish it. (Catherine)
Hi Mummy, Daddy and Nicky

I just wanted to know how Nicky went with his doctors appointment today I just couldn't keep my mind off it. I am also going to the snow tomorrow and I'm going to ski. I MISS YOU GUYS HEAPS LOVE YOU! xxx (Alessia)

  11. Hi Seb,
Sounds like another exciting day planned for all.

Don't forget to ask heaps of questions while at the Australian Institute Of Sport and the Australian War Memorial.

Enjoy the beautiful cooler weather down there because it's supposed to be 34 degrees in Brisbane on Friday, yes that's right 34, that's 11 degrees above the predicted temperature for today, which is 23 degrees.

I hope you all experience great weather conditions while you're up in the snow, I'm sure you'll enjoy the snow and hopefully you'll all pick up the skiing technique quickly so that you can have heaps of fun on the slopes.

    Love, Dad, Mum and Laura

Glad to know that you are enjoying another fun-filled and exciting day and digging into the buffet dinner. Do be careful on the snowfields as overnight rain predicted for Canberra may create icy and hard surface. With St Catherine's precious children away, Brisbane must felt bored and the sky fell (rain) for the first time in 2 months. Do enjoy the skiing and snow. Love Dad
